Hours of work and days off: 17:00 to 03:00 hours; Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off for one position and Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for three positions. Business Unit Information Calgary Transit moves people, some 85 million passengers every year. Calgary Transit plans, designs and operates The City's entire public transportation system, including an ever-expanding fleet of buses, an LRT network, and accessible public transportation. Responsibilities Under the direction of the Servicelane Foreman, the incumbent performs a variety of duties in the LRV Servicelane Unit at Anderson Garage. Vacuums and picks up litter from Light Rail Vehicles. Cleans interiors by washing windows, mopping and cleaning floors, and cleaning hand rails and seat dividers. Drives LRVs through the section, coupling and uncoupling cars as required, and parking on assigned track. The driver of the LRV is required to record the wheel readings and lane number and ensure that the power is locked out when parked. Fills windshield antifreeze and sand bins when required. Cleans signs, dispatches LRVs to assigned lanes, or washes vans, cars, or trucks as required. Duties involve the operation of basic hand tools and cleaning equipment as well as the driving of LRV's. Performs other related duties as required. Qualifications The successful candidate requires completion of some grade ten academic courses such as English/Math, possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 Operator's License with no more than six demerits and the ability to obtain a "Q" endorsement. Ability to maintain an LRV operator's license is essential. Must be physically able to carry out the work, able to follow oral and written instructions effectively and to maintain simple clerical records. Preference may be given to applicants with previous experience in the servicing and maintenance of vehicles; and to employees currently in possession of LRV rule book training.
Performance of duties involves moderate physical exertion on a regular basis. Works under standard shop conditions and hazards which include exposure to dampness associated with the washlane, as well as the catenary. Note: - Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.
