[font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]The purpose of this program is to facilitate the professional accreditation and labour market access of internationally educated accountants through training which meets local business demand by developing participants’ English language proficiency and assisting in their adapting and improving of previously learned skills to Canadian standards.[/font]

[font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]The duration of the program is 10 months (April through January). [/font][font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]
[font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]To participate in the Program, applicants must meet the following criteria:[/font][/font][font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif][/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Be a graduate of a degree program from an international institution with some study and experience in the accounting field.[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Be unemployed or a recipient of EI or Income Support. Or underemployed at less than 20 hours per week.[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Be a resident of Alberta for as least three (3) months prior to the program start date.[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Be a Landed Immigrant or Canadian Citizen.[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Have the appropriate level of English Language proficiency as measured by the CLBA.[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Be highly motivated to work in the field of accounting.[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Be committed to complete the 10-month program.[/font]

On completion of the program, participants will:[/font]

- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Have increased / refreshed their knowledge in accounting[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Be more aware of Canadian standards, laws, workplace norms and expectations[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Communicate more effectively in the English language[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Have increased their computer skills including MS Windows, Word, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Simply Accounting[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Have increased their awareness of Canadian labour market trends and their ability to conduct a successful job search[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Eligibility for Membership in CGA or CMA[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Have acquired professional recognition and membership in a Canadian association recognized worldwide[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]Have acquired Certification from a Canadian educational institution with 15 of 20 courses towards NAIT’s Accelerated Accounting Diploma[/font]
- [font=verdana,arial,helvetica,sans-serif]And have increased employment prospects in Canada.[/font]

The Program is a partnership between the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers (EMCN), Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), and Certified General Accountants of Alberta (CGA) / Certified Management Accountants of Alberta(CMA).
Each partner contributes as follows:
- EMCN provides the English language training, First Aid training, Simply Accounting training and the labour market / job search strategy training and supported job search.
- CGA and CMA provide association membership opportunities, designation as well as mentorship opportunities.
- NAIT provides the Accounting training for this customized accelerated accounting program.
