It is my pleasure to write this letter of recommendation for Mr. XXX, a graduate student of my class, in support of his application to the admission of graduate student at your department and the research assistantship.
I became acquainted with Mr. XXX in fall, 199X when he, as a graduate student, took my course of Technology of Automobile Panel Forming. In my contact with him in and out of class, I find that he is a promising young man. His grasp of sophisticated theories and analytical thinking impressed me. In his study, he paid great attention to basic concepts and fundamental principles on which the whole theory of sheet metal forming was based. Furthermore, Mr. XXX was one of the most inquisitive students. In class discussions, his questions were always profound and constructive, and not beyond my expectation he got an "A" in the final examination.
At the same time, as a research assistant of Prof. XXX in the laboratory of CAE, he took part in some important projects. He showed great enthusiasm in his research projects. To my knowledge, he had finished these projects successfully and obtained many useful results. This achievement demonstrated his competence of working independently, such as self-teaching, consulting reference materials, writing computer program, and so on. Moreover, he has got an experience of employment as an assistant engineering in a plant. All of this will help him greatly in the future study and research. Also worthy of mention is his good command of English language. His English proficiency is sufficient to meet the needs of his further study.
As for his personality, he is honest and considerate. In addition, he is a hardworking, cooperative and cheerful young man. It is undoubted that he will be able to get along well with others of different environments.
