整篇cover letter的架构(转自wayabroad.com)
应征时不能只寄一张简历,还需附上一张信函说明你的意图,并借机再推销自己一番。这封说明信称为cover letter。
整篇说明信的架构:
一.信头与第一段
右上角是你的回信地址,如果你有专用的信纸,信头处有你的姓名地址等,这个部分就可省略。放在左边的是对方的姓名、职称、地址及发信日期。请注意:应避免使用To whom it may concern或是Dear Sir之类的空洞字眼。如果广告上没有注明,不知该和什么对象联络,可打电话去询问,效果会比用Dear Sir好得多。
其次,称谓(Salutation)后面要用冒号(Dear Mr. Smith:)(这是正式的用法,近年来有允许使用逗点的倾向)。第一段的内容通常是叙述一下你如何得知这个工作消息,以及你打算应征的是哪一项职位。
二.信的主体
信的主体中先简述自己学经历中与应征工作最相关的部分。细节在简历里都已陈述,此处无需重复。如果你目前已有份工作,可能得叙述一下为什么你觉得需要换工作,范文中所描述的原因是想要承担更多责任和迎接更大的挑战。同时要说明对方的公司为什么吸引你,也别忘了从对方公司的角度着想,说明你能为对方做出什么贡献。
三.信的结尾
信尾的部分有三项重点。第一是礼貌上要谢谢对方。第二,要告诉对方你的下一步行动:是静候通知,还是要打电话询问?电话询问是什么时候要打?第三,提醒对方信中还有什么附件。这就是一份完整的说明信与简历。

* You are a substantive company offering a product of superior quality.
My resume, which is enclosed, speaks of my experience and expertise in retailing, and most recently in the marketing of personal computers. I am assertive, diligent, driven, and hardworking. I am a seeker of end results -- and I achieve them, as the enclosed overview of my accomplishments proves. I thrive and deliver in a demanding, and fast paced environment. I am willing to tackle and accomplish any project. My management style is open, humorous, example-driven, and loyal.
I believe that we can be successful partners. I want the chance to meet with you and would consider an interview a most wonderful opportunity. I'll make myself available at your convenience so that we may discuss salary in detail, and I can provide references.
