The colleges and institutes listed below offer the government-funded language training such as Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC) funded through the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. In British Columbia the LINC program is called “English Services for Adults” (ELSA), and in Quebec thea “Francisation” program funded by the Ministère des relations avec les citoyens et de l’Immigration.
The advantage of taking a LINC, ELSA or “Francisation” program at a college or institute is that participants become better positioned to pursue more language training programs if required or transfer into career/technical, university transfer or degree programs offered at the college or institute. English as a Second Language (ESL) or “Francisations” instructors at colleges and institutes can refer candidates to their institution's advising and counselling services.
