新闻内容是这样的:
Five provinces may see prolonged cold snap
Updated Wed. Jan. 14 2009 2:21 PM ET
CTV.ca News Staff

Canadians in five frost-bitten provinces are being warned to bundle up for at least a few more days of frigid temperatures before the mercury begins to rise.
The deep freeze that has hit Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec -- taking temperatures to between -20 and -50 with wind chill -- could last until next week in some areas, warned Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson.
As of Wednesday morning, Manitoba was experiencing particularly extreme wind chills and temperatures.
"The statement this morning out of Manitoba was mentioning brief wind chills as cold as minus 50," Coulson told CTV's Canada AM.
"When we get to those kinds of wind chills we are talking about potential frostbite within a matter of minutes."
According to the Environment Canada's website, temperatures in Calgary were -10 with a wind chill of -16 just before 2 p.m. EST on Wednesday.
Calgarians were also dealing with snow accumulation problems, with residents making "a high volume" of calls to city staff.
The City of Calgary said Wednesday that it now has "a full picture of what is occurring in the city" as a result of the calls.
To the east, in Saskatoon, Sask., the winds had calmed down and temperatures plummeted to -32. Things were just as bad in Regina, where residents saw midday temperatures of -28 with a wind chill of -37.
Temperatures were also very low in Winnipeg, where it was -29 with a wind chill of -38.
In Thunder Bay, Ont. on Wednesday morning it was -24 with the wind chill taking the temperature to a frigid -36. Toronto was a little warmer, with temperatures at -16 with the winds standing still in the early afternoon.
In Montreal the temperature was -22 with wind chill making it feel like a frigid -33.
Coulson said the duration of the deep freeze will vary depending on the province -- with
those in the east likely to feel the effects of the cold front longer than those in the west.
"It looks like Saskatchewan will begin to see some relief from the bitter cold by Friday," he told CTV's Canada AM.
"For Manitoba it's Friday and into Saturday. Northwestern Ontario should be seeing some relief on Saturday, Southern Ontario probably into Sunday before we see somewhat milder temperatures, and in Quebec it's probably going to be right into early next week before they see some relief."
Parts of northern and northwestern New Brunswick were expected to see extreme wind chill values as well, with Environment Canada predicting wind chills below -35 on Wednesday night.
Coulson warned that frostbite and freezing can set in within minutes when temperatures reach such lows -- and people should avoid unnecessary risks.
"In this type of weather, really, if you don't have to be out there you shouldn't be out there," he said.
"If you have to be out there for any length of time -- and some folks it's their job, they have to be -- these people are well prepared, dressed in layers, making sure they've got all their extremities covered to try to keep as much as the body warmth in as they can."
Even after next week, Canadians aren't necessarily in the clear. Coulson warned that it's possible we'll experience another cold snap before the winter is over.
"We're still in the middle of January," Coulson said.
"These types of cold outbreaks are still quite possible as we head through the rest of the month of January and right into February. Hopefully not of this scope and this depth of cold, but we still have a ways to go this winter."

Gee, cold temperatures in January on the Praires - this is news?

Dan James
The prairies are waiting for it to warm up to what Toronto is complaining about

Kerry in Calgary
It's always hilarious to see Toronto get a little bit of cold. The media always runs with it like a war has broken out. Their low of -21 and a windchill of -29 is nothing compared to what we out west endure every winter. Before Christmas whn here in Calgary the daily highs were -27 with a windchill of -40 the national news never said squat. Get real Torontonians, a little cold might wake you guys up! Think yourself lucky you don't live on the prairies where -30 is a warm day!!

tc
The prairie provinces have been having this cold weather since early December. Now as soon as Ontario gets a bit it is headline news. Maybe if Mel Lastman was still around he could call in the military to help warm up Toronto.

Socialism is killing us
Cold weather in January in Canada? What a surprise!!!! Call in the army. We need help!!!!!!!

JDS
I assume this unbearable cold is the result of global warming right?

Ken - Calgary
Hmmm... apparently they forgot to mention Calgary, where it's going up to +10 tomorrow....

Jane
Five days?? Oh my gosh, poor babies. We've been freezing our butts off in Alberta for over a month!!!

bill
i'm from the 50's when we had real winters. to a real canadian this is mere blip

ian in dry BC
Hey everyone, who has not heard this from a Torontonian "oh, but its a wet cold and it cuts right through you". Their -5 is like our -38, in both C and F. Lets have some empathy for them and their wetness.

YukonGirl
Hard to feel sorry as it's been between -35 and -40 in Whitehorse(that's *real* temperature, not including windchill) and snowing like crazy for the past month. (Oh, and it's been life and work as usual - no snow days or calling in at work because it's too cold....)

TP
While these cold temps may be the norm for the Prairies, it's not normal for southern Ontario and Quebec. So yes, it is news.

Sean
We should see the army making its appearance in Toronto in 3...2....1...

Kim in Burlington, Ontario
I have lived in Winnipeg, Flin Flon and Saskatoon for 12 years in each location and I can honestly say that living for the past 7 years in Burlington, Ontario, 50 kms west of Toronto is the coldest and snowiest place I have ever lived. I'm pretty sure it's our proximity to Lake Ontario and all the wind and lake effect snow that it brings us. A -40 in Flin Flon doesn't bring the heavy air that a -20 brings in the GTA.
Living in Saskatchewan I used to make fun of the "Toronto wimps."
Now I understand how much colder it feels here in Ontario, combined with much less sunshine. My Flin Flon parka isn't cutting here in Ontario! At least spring will come here in March, and not May! :)
Here the snow plows push snow and block ramps on the 400 highways--very dangerous commuting situation here! People can't get around because of inferior snow removal.
It's good to live in different parts of Canada to understand what people experience. My move to Ontario has taught me that temperatures mean different things in different locations.

Astro
It was plus five in the Mountains of Sunny Southern Alberta yesterday. Even when it is warm in Calgary and Toronto the air still stinks. Literally. Ha ha suckers.

rick in cambridge
Look at all these people complaining about Toronto not being able to handle the cold.....and not one complaint from a person in Toronto. What are you people talking about?

Lisa from ON
I think people who live in places that are colder should stop telling others to get real and suck it up. You are used to it, congratulations, you win! give me a break. Everyone has a right to complain about the cold if they want.
When I was a teenager in NL, if it was +0. I would shovel in a tshirt, now after living in BC, I find these ON winters crazy!

ME
Hey you westerners. I've been in both places so I know what I'm talking about. Out west you have a dry cold and when the mercury dips low it does not feel near as cold as it does in Ontario at a warmer temperature.
I now live in northern Ontario and this morning my thermometer read -40, even Toronto had -30. What it was with the wind chill I have no idea.
I have been in Toronto when the thermometer dipped and I was glad to get home where the temperature might have been colder but didn't feel as cold. Downtown The tall buildings create a wind tunnel and it's enough to blow you away. I wouldn't live there if you paid me.

Jean Vernon BC
Oh gosh, let's realize that it's the media hyping the weather, not the people. We're just all enduring the winter, as we always do. And the press is making it big-time news, just as they always do.

Heather in Huntsville
I always have to laugh at the weather guy on cbc radio on Ontario morning when he talks about 'frigid' temperatures when he means -10. This morning in Muskoka it was a gorgeous -30! Yay winter!

George Rondina
I'm getting a little tired of the " tough westerners " coming down on the east, especially Ontario and Toronto. Let's face it
without Ontario, the West would be lost.

How's that oil working out right now ?
The economic engine of this country is Ontario. Now if the PM, would have taken this stance instead of kissing up to big oil, we might all be better off right now !

Mr. Frost Bite
Like it or leave it, it's January in Canada.
One thing I do love about winter, is that we always look forward to spring and summer and because those seasons dont' stay with us long, we don't take them for granted as much.
You know you're Canadian when you say "It's going to warm up tomorrow to -10".
It's good being Canadian

Brian GP
Man i am from AB and it has been really cold here BUT its a dry cold not wet like there so man folks cut them some slack.

Patricia
I just walked my dog here in 'freezing Toronto' and don't know what the fuss is about and neither does my pooch. Sure it's chilly, but it is winter and it seems to be the media that fusses, not the people of Ontario. I can't stand it when weather is the lead story on the local news unless it's a tornado or something.

The earth is getting warmer experts said
Hey folks, don’t worry, take it with a smile, the earth is getting warmer, all the stats and figures experts said so.

Jim
"Think yourself lucky you don't live on the prairies where -30 is a warm day!!"
I think myself lucky that I don't live in the prairies on a daily basis.

Logan
People forget that a Sunny Day in the winter is a bad thing. You do NOT want to see the sun in the sky in the Winter time. It's a counter-effect of what happens in the summer time. The sun does not heat the ground at ALL in winter. When the sun beams down and the clouds vanish, all the heat that the clouds trapped on the ground rise into the atmosphere and is gone. That is why when the sun breaks out, it gets bitterly cold, and when it's overcast and snowy, it's much warmer.

Old yukon Gal
Its Whitehorse and guess what temperature is 0 yes i said zero on jan 14th I lived here in the 50 and 60s and 60 below was common back then I dont feel sorry for all those poor people in ontario

Candace in manitoba
I really feel for the homeless people....wonders where they are spending their cold nights???

Yes this is news! It must be, since every news site is reporting on it. Of course it gets cold in Canada in winter. But these are frigid temperatures, and they cover a large area of the country. This kind of cold is dangerous, and already some deaths have been reported in the U.S. So enough with the sarcastic comments please. You're at your computer in a nice warm home. So many others are not. Hopefully these news reports will spur us to help them out...yes, even if it means we need to call in the army!

Nick T, Ottawa
It was -39 with the wind in Ottawa this morning, and currently at 11:28am it's -26 with a windchill of -36. As long as you dress for it, it isn't all that bad. I have my ski pants and Sorel's on, and I didn't find it all that bad this morning. Cold, yes, but bad, no, because I was dressed for it...

And Torontonians are a bunch of wimps (I used to live there for a while). It's only -18 with no windchill there right now... ;)

Ontarian
For the Non-Ontarians....I'm tired of hearing you complain about us...how about you stop your whining ....enough about the army, our being whimps etc. And to think they say Canadians are suppose to be a nicer group of people! Ha.

elizabeth
I feel sorry for the homeless - may you all show your humanity. Here in B.C. our new mayor on his first week on the job was able to cut through the political bureacracy and get a new shelter opened up in a warehouse for 200 people during the extreme cold we had.

It is possible where the political will is there.

Po in Ottawa
So it's cold in the prairies and in the Yukon... do you want a medal? Get over yourselves.

ColdinAlberta
We have had a very cold winter so far here in Edmonton. Why is it making news now? What happened in December when we were living with -38 for over a week, did anyone care? Were we in the news? No, so why now? Is it because of Saskatchewan receiving cold? No, they have been dealing with that as well. Is it because Manitoba is cold, probably not. I would say we are lumped in the news because Ontario and Quebec are having a windchill problem.

I really never agreed before that the media makes a big deal out of Toronto weather until now.

People, you are right. If Toronto was not in a deep freeze, would you even hear Alberta, Sask and Manitoba linked in with the same news? Not likely.

So all us out here in the west should provide survival ideas to the east as their weather keeps making the news but no one is telling them how to live through it.

Fashion does not always constitute warmth. Fingers and toes are much more important than having on the right boots and gloves. We know when to dress for fashion and when to dress for warmth, with a windchill, you had better dress for warmth.

Joe in Winnipeg
My professor tells me global warming is here to stay, but my body feels otherwise .... it's been below -30C in Winnipeg for weeks now. Those melting ice cap in the global warming video I watch in class yesterday looks beautiful right now.

Well i live in toronto and it is very cold in here. Specially when you atke public transit and have to wait for the bus to arrive. Everybody knows canadian winters are cold and i thin most torontonians are used to it and are not complaining about it. However everybody else seems to be concerned about us and how we are dealing with it.

DS
So Canada is cold and Toronto is not.
At least people in Toronto don't complain.

Doug
I see the anti-Ontario forces are out today. Actually the news is not about Toronto or Ontario but about the whole north-eastern part of the continent being in a deep-freeze. So the temperature dropped to -32 in Saskatoon. Well it was -31 in Port McNicoll on Georgian Bay Ontario at seven this morning. Not only that, you westerners, when I went to retrieve the dog from the fire hydrant this morning, I tripped over the clothesline. So there.

Michael
I love how everybody from the West is so bitter towards Ontario (Toronto in particular).

I'm not quite sure why there's so much built up bitterness?

Brenda in Winterpeg
Ok people, it is the middle of January, what do you really expect!

Come to Winnipeg, -50 today with the windchill and you will know what true COLD is all about!

Nolan Moore
Finally getting warm here in Calgary. 9c-11c for the next couple of days. Thank you Chinook!

Pip
. . . and some of us walked to school and back in this snow and cold - uphill both ways!

sd
The reporting of extremely cold weather is simply an alert that enables the public to help those who walk/work/live outdoors, especially in large urban centres that are not prepared for it. It is sad to hear that some personalize and even mock the worthiness of cold weather news.

LL in Oh-En-Tee
I suspect that for the vast majority of us the cold, (be it 50 below in the West or snow and 25 below in the east), only has its affect on us between the house and the car that has a been idling for 20 minutes. For all others that have to walk to work, school, shopping, etc. or work outside all day long, you're a hardy lot and my hat is off to you. (but not to long as my ears get cold !)

Brad
Hey Kerry and the rest of you in Calgary...I am not usually a defender of Toronto, but think about why it is worse for a second...if the rest of the cities in Canada would take care of their own homeless people then it might not be such a big deal in Toronto!! I guess Alberta doesn't have homeless people because the rest of us are paying such a high price for your oil!!

Leif Harmsen
Call the police!!!!

Carmen, North Bay
If only Canadians could get as worked up over world hunger as we do over the weather. This is not a competition to see who can bash Toronto the hardest; it's a simple weather report. And enough with the "army" comments already. That story was old news a decade ago. Get a new stand-up routine, people!

Della Eckersley
Della - Edmonton
Ok, so I grew up in Ontario, lived in Vancouver, raising kids in Edmonton. Cold is cold, dry or wet. After a certain temp it doesn't matter. My family is in Ontario and we are always asking for Edmonton temp to get to a high of Ontario temp. The media must be running out of important news. You can always talk about the weather

Tristan from Winnipeg
The moment it gets a little colder in Ontario and Quebec, the entire country has to hear about it. It was -43.8C in Sprague, Manitoba yesterday, WITHOUT the wind chill. Not to mention that for weeks in December, the temperature did not rise above -20C. Meanwhile, in Ottawa and Toronto, yesterday the high was just below the freezing mark and their so called "deep freeze" has barely lasted a day.

Oh, right I almost forgot... how dare I mention any negative comments about the "greatness" of Ontario and Quebec. I'm just a "tough westerner", silly me, I have no right to an opinion...

Jessie
Actually I did hear how cold
it was out west since December if you watche Canada AM or evening News
so it's not just about Toronto

Cold in Saskatoon
Saskatoon has not enjoyed it's normal "dry cold" this winter. During most of the last month the humidity outside has been between 70 and 80%. Feel bad for anyone who gets it, but I am with the people that are laughing at the media for making this news now that it has it Ontario.

J.C.
I have lived in Ontario all my life. I have met many from the Yukon, Whitehorse and the west over the years. When they came here, they expected it to be warmer than where they came from in the winter as the temp was less, however due to the dampness they felt colder and told me they wished they were back where they came from as they did not feel the cold there as much as here. I being used to it did not complain.
I suggest to those in the Yukon and the west before you do your bragging about temperatures, that you visit other places so you too might be in the "Real Know", instead of bragging about what you do not really feel. A damp cold is much colder felt than a dry cold.
Just thought I would let you know! And by the way, I will be taking my dog out for his regular walk no matter what the temp.

Ray Jr., Sudbury, ON
All I have to say is that, although it may be cold, I love the crisp, clean air and the beautiful sunshine that accompanies it during the day. I can't wait for this evening because you just have to look at the stars during extremely cold nights. I love Canada and the cold that comes with it but I am also very thankful that it doesn't last for ever.

Peace to the middle east.

I am a proud prairie girl, living in Toronto, and I ask my former province mates to stop harping on people in Ontario for complaining about -29.

People who live here don't have Sorel boots, block heaters in their cars and warm winter jackets, because they simply never need them. YOU see how far your "prairie toughness" would get you if someone took away all your winter gear, and your Canadian Tire didn't stock enough for everyone.

If you suddenly got crazy amounts of rain or humidity or something you weren't used to, you'd whine and complain just like we are, and people in Vancouver and Toronto would have no problem dealing with it.

It's all about what you're prepared for.

Staysea Johnston
Agreed -40 in Alberta is cold, I grew up there, but -30 in Toronto is enough to freeze your joints stiff in minutes. Its the lake, the dampness exaggerates both cold and heat. Count yourselves lucky prairie folk.

SnowyDon
So…. I heard that Toronto is considering calling in the Army to help keep them warm……

Carol in Ottawa
I would like to point out that in Ontario, we have damp cold, not dry cold like out west. I lived in Cold Lake Alberta for 4 yrs and I know what cold is, but in Ottawa, the damp cold really hurts when it is -30 out. Much like the humidity you don't have out West. So those that live in the prairies, yes we know it gets cold there, but it gets cold in Ontario too. Ask anyone that grew up in Alberta with the dry cold, they can't stand the cold weather we get in Ontario, it is bone chilling.

Anne
You guys are too funny. I grew up out East (NS), and have now lived in Ottawa for 10 years. Funny thing is I did not like it at first, especially compared to the East Coast way of life and peoples attitudes. Now that I have lived here, I wouldn't want to live in any other province in Canada. Here is gets so hot in the summer you can hardly breathe, and so cold in the winter, you can barely catch your breath. It is certainly a different type of bone chilling cold, but you get used to it.
I don’t understand why most people from the West seem to think that the whole province of Ontario is like the City of Toronto, this is not true. This is an amazing province to live in. Why are you all being so negative towards Ontarians, it is not as bad as you might think, the only place that is anything like Toronto in attitude, mentality and so on, is TO, you’ll not find another city or town in Ontario with the same mentality as that city.
And as others have said, January in Canada, stop complaining, come with me Saturday and hop on a plane to Mexico :) YAY That is how to deal with our lovely Canadian Winters.

25 winters in Saskatchewan!!!
Hey, how about everyone calms down and we all get together and petition the governement to give everyone a week's long vacation to a warm destination once a year?? I think we would all be alot happier! I know I would be!!!

WP
Why are the western provinces so bitter over Toronto and eastern Canada, glad someone educated you on damp cold due to proximity to lake's'. cheer up! we are all Canadian

KS
oh all you Ontarian's just hate it when people are right on the money. Sure the cold is different but you put up with it for what a few days, we have it out west here for months. Are we bitter about the east, not really!! just hate all the comstant complaining that is made when it does get cold there. boo hoo, boo hoo!!

Ruth in Saskatoon
As if this is news. The prairies always get this cold every winter, so this isn't new....

SJ
Oy. Look. The WEST is NOT Alberta. the WEST is BC. So if you want to prop up your little province, at least SAY Alberta and not try and steal the REAL west. I've lived in AB. Hated it. Now I'm back in the REAL west. And we have no issues with TO (when it comes to winter, haha). So get it right!

Just North of TO
To ColdinAlberta although you may think just because Toronto is cold now Cold is making the news you would be entirely wrong. I have been hearing about the West freezing for weeks and feeling badly for you all. I have lived in the north suburbs of TO my entire life and can’t and won’t comment on any one else’s winter weather. I have heard but that is another thing than feeling and livening in it. I believe and stand for a united Canada and am tired of hearing negative comments made by anyone about any other part of this country. You would never hear this kind of thing in the US speaking about New York like this. What is wrong with you people?

Fact we are used to around 0C to -8C at this time of year. When it is these temperatures it is incredible cold for us in TO. It would be like the West going down to -40 with a wind chill of -55C. It is all relative to what you are used to or your Norm. Around two weeks ago it was +10 here. By the way I still feel sorry for the people in the West it has been way to cold for way to long for them.

Em
My only concern is for the homeless. Otherwise, suck it up. It's winter - make the most of life!

there was a study done a few years back on the canadian provinces. the only provinces which could separate and really don't need the rest of Canada was Alberta.

挺搞笑的.记得我刚去加拿大的时候给我朋友打电话,我说这里好冷阿,零下20度(出国前还没见过雪呢),他在电话那头说,这么暖?我们这里零下四十度阿(他在MANITOBA).
