Challenge
CS Recruitment and Development Program University:
Recent university graduates in Informatics who join Statistics Canada have the prospect of a challenging and rewarding career. As a new recruit, you will participate in a two-year development program during which you can expect several (usually three) diverse project assignments. Following the completion of the Recruitment and Development Program, you will be eligible for a promotion at the CS-02 level.
CS-01 System Development and Infrastructure Collegial:
Individuals hired at the CS-01 Collegial level will be placed directly into one of Statistics Canada’s many diverse divisions.
Statistics Canada offers a wide range of IT opportunities in the software development and maintenance domain and in the infrastructure services domain. The majority of opportunities in infrastructure services domain are in the Informatics Technology Services Division within the Informatics Branch. In the software development domain the opportunities are primarily in the Systems Development Division in the Informatics Branch however there are also software development, maintenance and operations opportunities in program areas across the Agency.
The System Development Division is responsible for the design, development and maintenance of software applications in support of statistical and administrative programs of Statistics Canada and provides advice for a range of informatics-related services.
The set of services comprises the provision of:
Application Development Services of quality business applications to Statistics Canada programs working in partnership with the clients. This task requires obtaining detailed requirements from clients, designing and building an application that meets the requirements within a suitable technological framework, testing the application and training users.
Application Maintenance and Support Services of existing business applications in support of Statistics Canada programs. Maintenance includes activities to keep the application functional throughout the system evolution: corrective maintenance, adaptive maintenance and enhancement. Production support includes activities related to the support of production runs, data structures, data base support and end-users assistance.
Development and support of reusable Generalized Systems for common survey processing functions to improve the efficiency and reliability of IT solutions.
The Informatics Technology Services Division is responsible for the development, delivery and maintenance of a set of informatics services in support of statistical and administrative programs of Statistics Canada in Headquarters and regional offices.
The set of services comprises the provision of:
Secure, cost-effective and efficient mainframe and data communication services.
Technical and consultative support services across a variety of platforms to facilitate secure, cost-effective and efficient end-user computing.
A comprehensive and cost-effective departmental informatics training program for all Statistics Canada employees.
A comprehensive informatics security program to guarantee confidentiality of data in compliance with the Statistics Act.
