As for TN, you still need the employment letter and you have to be a Canadian citizen. As a Canadian citizen, you don't need visa to enter US, but you need TN or H1 to work legally in US. http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/types/types_1274.html#12

the link didn't work, unfortunately.
As I understand from your post, once we have the Canadian passport and a job offer from American employer, all we need to do is to apply for TN? Would we be granted TN as long as we apply?
Thanks and look forward to your confirmation.

Your understanding on TN is almost correct. As long as your profession is on the NAFTA list, and you have job offer and Canadian passport, everything will be fine. But you have to renew your TN once a year. Details refer to above link.
But if you plan to apply the green card in US, you have to get H1. It is not a big deal for Canadian with TN though. They can work legally with TN while waiting for their H1.
The earliest date for which a petitioner may file a petition requesting FY 2007 H-1B employment with an employment start date of October 1, 2006, is April 1, 2006.

这个我认为理解不对。a petition requesting FY 2007 H-1B employment with an employment start date of October 1,
