Background Check by Visa Office (Forward)

Can anybody please advise if visa offices do their own background
checks in addition to the police certificates provided by an
applicant? If yes, then what is really the point in requesting to
submit police certs together with the application?

I have lived in a number of countries by now. Even though my police certs were in good order, I am worrying that the background check by visa office, if such is being conducted, will take a long time.

The background check has nothing todo with police certificates. It is more security oriented.

There is a background check done by visa post to verify your education and employment credentials. And there is a background/security check done by Canadian intelligence and security agencies to find out if you are or ever were involved in (or associated with someone who was) espionage, terrorism, organized crime, crimes against humanity, radical movements, were part of government committing crimes against humanity, etc.

Both of the above have nothing to do with police certificates which only cover criminal check part.

Well, for one thing it's pointless for the immigration staff to waste
time on a background check for an applicant who is going to be
rejected for having a criminal record, when they could be spending
that time processing people who would qualify for a visa. So, if
nothing else, the police certificates allow them to trivially reject
anyone who obviously does have a criminal record, before they spend time performing more thorough checks.

as police clearance / no criminal record is required, so when you must submit it with other documents.

as far as i knew, background check case is random selected, it is undertaken by another department rather than Immigration one.

UP!Might be a good idea to redirect this thread to Pro-immi Section.

I have six years of military medical education and more than ten years of working experience in a navy hospital. Does that mean the background check is most likely to be conducted in my case?
