Ensuring that safe work practices and policies are followed and that work meets established standards and specifications. Responsibilities include daily supervision of staff by overseeing work on job sites, conducting preliminary site investigations and preparing cost estimates; following up on customer concerns and co ordinating the operation of equipment, ensuring the completion of daily preventative maintenance. Qualifications: Grade 12 plus four years directly related experience in road repair, maintenance and Snow & Ice Control or a Civil Engineering Technology diploma or an Engineering degree. The ideal candidate will possess supervisory skills, excellent interpersonal skills as the position requires interaction with both the public and private sectors. The ability to work well under pressure, prioritize multiple tasks and priorities, and demonstrate good judgement in problem solving and decision making. The candidate must possess a working knowledge of the departments time reporting system and work order generation as well as the ability to track time cards, wages, equipment rentals, inventories and accomplishments. A working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations, highway maintenance practices, construction methods and department specifications and standards are essential.
