Ms. M. says:
Thanks everyone for your tips! Couple of updates/warnings from my experiences so far today, for those of you looking to snag your own birthday freebies this year:
1) Blenz @ Granville and Davie - Refused to give me a birthday drink, apparently they "don't participate". Funny, as this is apparently a Canada-wide offer, plus this is the Blenz that I frequent regularly. Jerks.
2) Blenze @ Granville and Nelson - Gave me a free drink, but made me pay $1.45 for almond milk! I ordered an Americano Misto...roughly a $3 drink. I could have ordered a $5 Caramel Macchiato without a substitution and not paid a dime. JERKS.
3) Vera's @ Davie and Burrard - Signed up online and received a $10 off coupon. My mom decided to join me at the last minute, which I'm extra thankful for, because as soon as the cashier saw my coupon she said, "WE DON'T DO THAT HERE!" And I said, "Really?" And she said, "Well, only if you're with someone else and they pay full price". (Not sure if my mom was momentarily invisible...?) Either way, THE COUPON DOES NOT SAY THIS, but because my mom was getting a burger anyway, they reluctantly accepted the $10 off coupon. JERKS!!!!
4) Sephora - I shop here anyway but hadn't bothered to sign up for their loyalty card until I heard about their free birthday gift. The girl at the counter was extraordinarily pleasant and must have said "Happy Birthday!" to me at least 5 times, and she threw in a Clinique sample for me on top of the free gift. Thank you Sephora for being the ONLY company so far who has stuck to their word!
Final note: No one is putting a gun to anyone's head and making them hand out free things to moochers on their birthdays. It's simply a nice gesture and a pleasant way to reward customers for their loyalty. But if you do CHOOSE to provide this service, do it with a smile and don't be a jerk!
(Still having a great birthday, despite)
Thanks again
