bbsnake 2006-01-16 05:16

bbsnake 2006-01-16 05:17

bbsnake 2006-01-22 08:06

David Liu 2006-01-22 11:01

bbsnake 2006-01-23 06:21

Pandaj

sannorm 2006-10-26 11:07

Teaching styles? Communication styles?

silja 2006-10-29 08:49

silja 2006-10-29 08:52

silja 2006-10-29 08:58

silja 2006-10-29 09:10

sannorm 2006-10-29 10:15

可以改行比如学个图书馆的DIPLOMA,去图书馆做CATALOGING,也算PARAPROFESSIONAL(泛专业人士),或学个牙医助理,法律助理,BOOKKEEPER,都属PARAPROFESSIONAL(泛专业人士).

silja 2006-10-30 11:24

http://www.vaniercollege.qc.ca/academics/ece.html
This three-year program is designed for students who want to work with infants and young children. Courses provide the professional education needed to understand the development of children and training in the methods used by early childhood professionals. Fieldwork experiences provide an opportunity to combine course theory with practical applications.

Program Objectives
To prepare competent early childhood educators
To develop in students professional knowledge and skills
To provide a solid foundation in child development
To strengthen communication skills and to enhance professional teamwork
To empower students to manage their career.

Career Description
Graduates contribute to the optimal physical, emotional, intellectual and social growth of young children. Work environments include CPEs (Centres de la Petite Enfance), nursery schools, home day care facilities, community pre-school programs and school age care programs (before and after school). Graduates work with children from birth through age twelve. Interest in childcare settings has been growing rapidly together with the demand for competent educators to staff these programs. Job opportunities are excellent.

Facilities and Resources
Students and faculty use a variety of educational materials and equipment for demonstration and study purposes. The Early Childhood Laboratory Centre is an on-campus facility for young children attached to the ECE program. The Laboratory Centre serves as a fieldwork placement and a demonstration centre for various courses. All students participate in guided field placements in which they work closely with co-operating educators and faculty supervisors. Childcare facilities throughout Montréal serve as on-site fieldwork experience centres. The centres are representative of the various types of childcare settings in which graduates will work: CPEs, nursery schools, home day care facilities, community pre-school programs and school age care programs. Each student will, over the course of their three fieldwork placements, have an opportunity to work with a variety of age groups from infants to children twelve years of age.

As part of the experience of integrating theory with practice, fieldwork is carried out in day-care centres or nurseries in the Montréal area. These fieldwork placements are arranged by the Early Childhood Education Department and students are supervised regularly by members of the Early Childhood Education faculty. In the second and third year, fieldwork is scheduled in intensive blocks to immerse students in the day-to-day reality of the professional early childhood educator.

Faculty
The teachers in the Early Childhood Education Program have diverse practical and theoretical backgrounds. Through classroom and fieldwork contacts the students experience meaningful, individualized instruction.

http://www.arts.ualberta.ca/~eastasia/

sannorm 2006-11-13 07:56

Formal Authority
Teachers who have a formal authority teaching style tend to focus on content. This style is generally teacher-centred, where the teacher feels responsible for providing and controlling the flow of the content and the student is expected to receive the content.
One type of statement made by an instructor with this teaching style is "I am the flashlight for my students, I illuminate the content and materials so that my students can see the importance of the material and appreciate the discipline."
Teachers with this teaching style are not as concerned with building relationships with their students nor is it as important that their students form relationships with other students. This type of teacher doesn't usually require much student participation in class. "Sage on the stage" model.

Demonstrator or Personal Model
Teachers who have a demonstrator or personal model teaching style tend to run teacher-centred classes with an emphasis on demonstration and modeling. This type of teacher acts as a role model by demonstrating skills and processes and then as a coach/guide in helping students develop and apply these skills and knowledge.
A teacher with this type of teaching style might comment: "I show my students how to properly do a task or work through a problem and then I'll help them master the task or problem solution. It's important that my students can independently solve similar problems by using and adapting demonstrated methods."
Instructors with this teaching style are interested in encouraging student participation and adapting their presentation to include various learning styles. Students are expected to take some responsibility for learning what they need to know and for asking for help when they don't understand something.

Facilitator
Teachers who have a facilitator model teaching style tend to focus on activities. This teaching style emphasizes student-centered learning and there is much more responsibility placed on the students to take the initiative for meeting the demands of various learning tasks.
This type of teaching style works best for students who are comfortable with independent learning and who can actively participate and collaborate with other students.
Teachers typically design group activities which necessitate active learning, student-to-student collaboration and problem solving. This type of teacher will often try to design learning situations and activities that require student processing and application of course content in creative and original ways.

Delegator
Teachers who have a delegator teaching style tend to place much control and responsibility for learning on individuals or groups of students.
This type of teacher will often give students a choice designing and implementing their own complex learning projects and will act in a consultative role.
Students are often asked to work independently or in groups and must be able to maintain motivation and focus for complex projects. Students working in this type of setting learn more than just course specific topics as they also must be able to effectively work in group situations and manage various interpersonal roles.

Foreign Language Instructors

Work Schedule: Full Time
Salary: $49,397 - $70,558
Location: Washington, DC metropolitan area

Foreign Language Skills Are Essential to CIA's Mission

The Central Intelligence Agency is hiring qualified and experienced Language Instructors of Arabic, Chinese/Mandarin, Dari/Pashtu, French, German, Greek, Indonesian, Japanese, Persian (Farsi), Russian, Serbo-Croatian, Thai, and Turkish to work in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.

The CIA provides first-class training for energetic, creative and committed intelligence professionals. CIA Language Instructors deliver programs that provide students with the foreign language communications skills and cross-cultural awareness they need to live and work abroad effectively, or to perform other language-related duties. Foreign Language Instructors apply the latest instructional methodologies to meet highly customized student needs and conduct language proficiency testing in reading, speaking and understanding for skills evaluation. In addition, they may be asked to provide a variety of language support services worldwide.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's in foreign language, linguistics or a related field; native fluency in the language; 2-5 years of teaching experience; demonstrated knowledge of the respective area's history, culture, politics and economy; and the ability to use the latest technology and teaching techniques. Also desired are experience in teaching language skills to a wide range of adult students, from beginners to those at a more advanced proficiency level, and experience in program and/or education management. As part of the screening and interview process, applicants will be required to take language proficiency tests in their native language. Advanced English proficiency is also required.

Salaries are based on the individual applicant's qualifications. In addition to base salary of $49,397 to $70,558, Language Instructors earn annual "bonus" pay ranging from $4,875 to $9,750, with the amount based on the language and their language proficiency. Language Instructors who speak multiple foreign languages may also qualify for additional bonuses in varying amounts. Furthermore, new employees can qualify for a lump-sum hiring bonus for languages, up to a maximum amount of $35,000.

All applicants must successfully complete a thorough medical and psychological exam, a polygraph interview and an extensive background investigation. U.S. citizenship is required.

To be considered suitable for Agency employment, applicants must generally not have used illegal drugs within the last twelve months. The issue of illegal drug use prior to twelve months ago is carefully evaluated during the medical and security processing.

Important Notice: You are interested in a position as an overt employee---which means you can acknowledge your affiliation with the Central Intelligence Agency. But should you? There may be friends, family, individuals or organizations who would be very interested to learn that you are an applicant for or an employee of the CIA. Their interest, however, may not be benign or in your best interest. You cannot control who they would tell. We therefore ask you to exercise discretion and good judgment in disclosing your interest in a position with the Agency.

In McGill, both Teacher Education undergraduate program and master of Library and Information Studies program belong to the Faculty of Education, which means the two programs have commnn features. Both of them have special requirements for the admission, especially about the language skills for international applicants. I would say both of them are quite competitive.

English Language Requirement Test

English Language Proficiency Test (EDEC 215)

The Quebec Ministry of Education and the Faculty of Education require that all students in teacher education programs demonstrate their proficiency in the language of instruction.
To fulfill this obligation all students must successfully pass an English Language Proficiency Test in the fall term of their first year in the program. The test will be administered in the December examination period. Students who fail the Test the first time and who wish to remain in the program will have adequate opportunities to improve the quality of their English language skills. All students who were unsuccessful in their first Test in the first year in the program will be required to register and take the test in the fall term of the second year in the program. Students who fail the second Test will be placed in unsatisfactory standing and must withdraw from the program.

Note: This requirement does not apply to students in the B.Ed. TFSL or the Certification in Education for First Nations and Inuit programs.
The Proficiency Exam will test two things: (1) your ability to write a coherent and well-developed essay in clear, correct English, and (2) your ability to recognize and correct errors in English grammar, usage, and mechanics (i.e., punctuation, capitalization, and spelling).
Part I of the exam will provide you with a set of essay topics or questions. You will choose one and, in response, write a 500-word essay. Your grade for the exam will be determined largely by your ability to write this essay; therefore, you should spend the majority of your time on this part of the exam.
Parts II and III of the exam will give you whole paragraphs and sentences that contain errors. You will be asked to locate and correct the errors and only the errors in these passages. (You will lose points if you correct something that is already correct.) This part of the exam will account for no more than 25% of your exam grade; therefore, you should not spend too much time on Parts II and III.

The exam as a whole is designed to identify people who have serious difficulty expressing themselves in good written English. Please do not worry unduly about the exam. If you should do poorly, you will be advised on ways to improve your written English and you will be allowed to re-take the exam next year to show that you have attained proficiency in English.

EDEC 208 Expressive Writing is available for students who did not pass the Proficiency Test.
Students must register for the English Language Proficiency Test (EDEC 215) during the Fall term of their first year in the BEd program.

Generally speaking, if you are not native English speaker, the probability of acceptance by a Teacher Education program in Canadian university is approximately close to zero. So don’t waste your time on this issue.:wdb7:

MLS is still possible if you can meet the admission requirements. The job market is positive. :wdb9:

http://www.gslis.mcgill.ca/MLIS_Admission.htm
MLIS Admission Requirements
Admission Requirements
As space is limited, it is strongly suggested that application to the MLIS program at GSLIS be made as early as possible.

There are four requirements in order to be admitted to the Master of Library and Information Studies degree:

Applicants must have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university. Academic standing of at least a B, or second class, upper division, or CPGA of 3.0 out of 4.0 is normally required.

The School will take into account the character of the applicants' undergraduate studies and their suitability for a career in library and information services.

Courses in library and/or information studies taken before or as part of a B.A., or such courses taken in a school with a program not accredited by the American Library Association, cannot be accepted either as fulfilling the entrance requirement or as credit toward the McGill MLIS.

Applicants with a Bachelor's degree completed solely or primarily in a language other than English or French are required to submit documented proof of competency in oral and written English prior to admission.

Such proof normally comprises the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 600 (paper-based test) or 250 (computer-based test), with a written score of at least 5.0 for either test, 100 (IBT Internet based TOEFL) with a written score of at least 25 and a reading, speaking, and listening score of not less than 20, or the International English Language testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall band score of 7.5

Applicants whose mother tongue is not English may be asked to demonstrate an English-language competency beyond the submission of the TOEFL or IELTS scores.

Competency in the use of computers is expected. GSLIS uses Windows 95/98/Me/2000/XP based operating systems on a Novell network. It is essential that students be familiar with file management and the Microsoft Office 2003 suite, especially Word 2003, PowerPoint 2003, Excel 2003 and Access 2003. It is also desirable that students be familiar with computer programming and statistics.

Previous library experience, while not essential, will be given consideration in assessing an application but cannot replace academic requirements.

Application Procedures
All applicants must submit, or arrange for the submission of, the following documents, directly to the School:

A completed application form. Application may be made:

Online at the main McGill Web site:

By e-mailing GSLIS at gslis@mcgill.ca directly if the above option is not possible. The School will mail you a form or send an e-mail attachment of the form.

If you cannot apply online or do not have an e-mail account please request an application form by writing to:

Graduate School of Library and Information Studies
McGill University
3459 McTavish Street, MS57-F
Montreal, Quebec H3A 1Y1
Canada

Two sets of official transcripts of the applicant's university record(s).

These transcripts must indicate degree awarded. If credits were transferred from a different institution then original transcripts must also be obtained from that source also.

When degree completion is expected in Spring of the application year then original transcripts showing courses and grades up to the last term of study should be submitted. Thereafter, the final transcripts must be sent when available.

If the file is reviewed without the final transcripts there will be a condition of acceptance on the official decision form that must be completed.

Students who have acquired a McGill degree do not have to submit official transcripts.

A non-refundable application fee of of $80 Canadian or US funds. There are no exceptions even if you have applied to another McGill department in the same year. This application fee is non-refundable.

The fee may be submitted by:

certified personal cheque in Canadian dollars drawn on a Canadian bank.

certified personal cheques in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank.

Canadian dollar money order.

U.S. dollar money order.

a bank draft in Canadian dollars drawn on a Canadian bank.

a bank draft in U.S. dollars drawn on a U.S. bank.

credit card ( mandatory if you submit an electronic application).

Cash and personal cheques will not be accepted - they will be returned and the file left unprocessed until an acceptable method of payment is received.

A non-refundable deposit of $200 is required for the MLIS program. Applicants must access Minerva within 30 days of the specified deadline to confirm acceptance and pay the deposit.

Payment is to be made by credit card. The $200 will be credited towards the tuition.

If the payment is not received within the specified deadline, the acceptance will be rescinded. The deposit will be forfeited if the student does not start the MLIS program.

A curriculum vitae.

Two academic letters of recommendation, on letterhead, or if the degree was awarded more than five years ago, two employer letters of recommendation.

A covering letter outlining the reasons for wishing to undertake the program of study.

Documented proof of competency in oral or written English (as in Admission Requirements above.)

Acceptance Confirmation - Fee Deposit - Deferrals
Confirmation of Offer of Acceptance
After receiving the official decision of acceptance from the Office of Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Studies, students must access Minerva and confirm that they will be attending the MLIS program by the date indicated in the letter from GSLIS.

If confirmation is not received by the date indicated, the offer of acceptance will be rescinded and the student's file archived.

Confirmation of Fee Deposit
When students access Minerva to confirm acceptance into the MLIS program, a deposit of CDN $200 is required and is payable by credit card. This amount will be credited towards the student's tuition statement upon registration for courses. In certain circumstances, the deposit may be paid by certified cheque or money order through special arrangements with the GSLIS office.

Confirmation will only be accepted after the deposit has been received.

Students who do not register for courses or who withdraw their application, after acceptance confirmation and payment of deposit, will forfeit their deposit.

Deferrals
Students who request a one year deferral after acceptance confirmation and payment of the deposit will have their deposit held in trust until the next entry date. If acceptance is not confirmed on Minerva for that new date, the deposit will be forfeited.

美国 ( backchina.com )

Sannorm,

Richard Florida 写的“The rise of the creative class”的部分章节在国内也经常有人引用。

Design & Computation Arts

Graduate Certificate: Digital Technologies in Design Art Practice

Faculty

Associate Professors: Michael Longford (Chair), P.K. Langshaw, Kat O’Brien, Martin Racine; Assistant Professors: Joanna Berzowska, Jennifer DeFreitas, Jason Lewis (Graduate Program Director), Christopher Salter, Sha Xin Wei (Canada Research Chair), Rhona Richman Kenneally.

The Graduate Certificate in Digital Technologies in Design Art Practice will provide qualified applicants with the resources to advance their conceptual and technical expertise in relation to the new digital technologies used in the design professions. The one year certificate program will be concerned with digital technologies as a medium or tool in the design art process and as a language of expression as the designer identifies and assesses the economic and social impact, and cultural consequence of expanding technologies. As the central part of the program, participants will undertake individual research projects that integrate new digital technologies into their professional practice. Students in the certificate program will work in the Centre for Digital Arts which includes Mac and PC Labs, a video production facility, computer aided design (CAD), and computer aided machining and rapid prototyping facilities adjacent to the Design Art workshops. Seminars will take place in a “smart classroom”. The graduate certificate is for those who wish to expand their present level of expertise, make a career change, or improve opportunities for advancement in digital media, the design professions, and the arts and cultural industries. It can also serve as a preparation for entrance in a degree program at an advanced level.

The program is geared toward creative professionals working in the following areas:
Creative direction with the responsibility for the creative aspects of a project from concept through production, incorporating new solutions using digital technologies in answer to industry and client needs.
Design responsible for the creation, research and analysis of projects incorporating digital media as it relates to new product development, graphic communications, and multimedia projects.
Digital communication in web and screen based interactive projects using creative and interpretative abilities combined with technical and computer programming skills.
Project management with the responsibility for client liaison, coordination of a creative team, and the organization of multi-faceted design projects.
Independent artists in the Fine Arts who use or wish to use digital technologies in support of their creative practice.
The certificate program will incorporate links with industry, the private sector, and the community in several ways, for example, by undertaking client projects, placing interns, presentations by outside representatives, contributions of resources and services.

Admission Requirements. Applicants are required to submit a description of a research project to be undertaken in the program, a portfolio and may be invited for an interview. All applicants will need an undergraduate degree, or equivalent. Applicants who do not have a Design or Art degree, may be required to take prerequisites or additional courses.

Application Deadline. The deadline for application to the Graduate Certificate is March 1.

Requirements for the Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate is a 15 credit program that combines an individualized research project with group seminars. Participants are expected to finish the program in the Fall/Winter semesters. In exceptional circumstances, students may substitute DART 510 for one of DART 501, 502 or 503.

Courses

DART 500 Individual Research Project (6 credits)
Students will have the opportunity to research the application of digital design in one or two of the following areas of concentration, under the direction of a full-time faculty advisor.
Design for Print Media
Student research projects will explore aspects of digitally-generated print media. Projects can be undertaken in experimental and applied image, in graphic design, typography, font exploration and generation, packaging book works and posters.

Applied and Experimental 3D Object Making
Student research projects will involve the design of three-dimensional objects, space and environments. This design option integrates the learning of computer software for 3D modeling, rendering and animation programs, computer aided design (CAD), computer aided machining (CAM) programs for plotting, rapid prototyping for block and concept modeling and using a 3D scanner to measure existing objects for computer input.

Interactive Media
Student research projects will investigate screen-based digital design and interactive systems. These will include websites, animation, the design of virtual spaces, interactive desktop presentations and visual navigation systems, the design and interface of virtual communities, distance learning and CD ROM based interactive educational and cultural projects, and web based national and international exchange opportunities.

Inter-media and Hybrid Practice
Student research projects will focus on digital integration or hybrid practices including social design or art interventions, installations, exhibitions, compilation works that use cross-discipline means of expression, and include the integration of digital technology into the process or final production.

Theoretical Investigations in Design Art
Student research projects will be used to investigate the theoretical constructs and discourse relating to the impact of digital technologies in art and design. This will also include the application of digital technologies for appropriate pedagogies and the development of innovative teaching methodology.
DART 501 Professional Workshop (3 credits)
This course is directed towards the practical applications of designing with digital technologies. Through a combination of hands-on workshops and invited speakers, students will study the structure of businesses, employee composition, job clientele, equipment needs and strategies for a successful design practice. Guest speakers from industry will guide classes, each on various aspects of their expertise in digital design.

DART 502 Language, Politics, Manifestos - Reading Seminar (3 credits)
The readings in this seminar will examine the ethical responsibilities, social impact, and cultural consequences of the new technologies in design art practice. The course will identify, situate and develop a language for dialogue and discourse. The issues considered will be on design ecology and ethics, gender polarization and biases, political strategies in the public sphere, and essential declarations of the digital era, in present and future technological environments.

DART 503 Theories of Interactivity (3 credits)
This course will explore the new opportunities designers have to fundamentally change the ways in which information is organized, manipulated and disseminated in the context of new communications technologies. The computer, as a medium for expression, will be explored through issues of cognition, metaphor, narrative structures, the creation of three dimensional objects and environments, symbolic interaction, information architecture and interactive visual navigational systems.

DART 510 Independent Study (3 credits)
Prerequisite: Written permission of the Graduate Program Director.
Independent study proposals must be supported by a full-tine faculty supervisor and approved with written permission by the Graduate Program Director. The student undertakes research in a specific field or topic relevant to their area of study.

What librarians need to know

Below is a sample of what is often required for librarian job positions. Don't worry if some of the requirements sound confusing! More information is available to help you with some of the tougher decisions.
Education

The requirements for a librarian position can span the range below:
  • Four-year undergraduate degree in any field
  • Master of library science degree (MLS)
  • MLS degree from an American Library Association (ALA)-accredited school
  • ALA-accredited MLS degree plus a teaching certificate (often the case in school libraries) or an ALA-accredited MLS plus a second masters degree, e.g., a law degree
Skills
  • Desire to meet and serve the library's user community
  • Ability to think analytically and to develop new or revised systems, procedures, and work flow
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment
  • Knowledge of computers, the internet, and commercially available library software
  • Knowledge of a foreign language for communities with non-English speaking populations
  • Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and present ideas clearly and concisely in written and oral form
  • Ability to make administrative decisions, interpret policies, and supervise staff
  • Ability to motivate, establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, supervisors, volunteers, other community agencies and the public
  • Knowledge of the philosophy and techniques of library service
  • Ability to organize job duties and work independently
  • Demonstrated knowledge of library materials and resources
  • Creativity to develop and implement library programs and services
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
  • Positive attitude toward library users with special needs
  • Accuracy and skill in typing
Experience
  • It's best to have some experience working in a library before graduating. This can be as a volunteer, page, library assistant, or even as part of an internship or graduate school project. Some libraries allow students who have demonstrated sufficient progress towards their library science masters degree to begin working as a librarian.
Career path
  • Librarians who excel in their area of work and are interested in management may make excellent candidates for a managerial position, such as a department head, branch manager, or assistant director. The job of library director may also be a natural next step, especially in the case of smaller libraries.

I KNOW! LET ME DO IT! LET ME DO IT!"

Job security。 3。一年有大约三个月的假期(two months in Summer, two weeks in Winter, one week in March,5days sick leave, 4 PD days)4。 5。教师的工作是比较轻松的,如果你是一个experienced teacher and want to take an easy way out,你不用批改作业,仅仅批改考试就可以了。

很多大学提供teacher’s college,例如:Oise at Uof T, York, Queen’s, Wetern, Lakehead, Brock等等。
