The government has presented Bill 206 in the legislature for final debate. The legislation would change the municipal employees' pension plan, and has prompted threats of an illegal strike.
CUPE Ontario president Sid Ryan has announced that a strike WILL begin at 12:01 Thursday morning and the union will hold a mass rally at Queens Park that same day. Ryan calls it an open-ended strike with no set length. He says he will evaluate the strike strategy on a day by day basis.

Mayor David Miller says Toronto is ready should CUPE workers walk off the job.
CUPE local 79 represents a significant number of the city's inside workers, including daycare workers. The local has already made an agreement with the city not to disrupt service.
The city's outside workers are members of CUPE local 416. Local President Brian Cochrane tells CFRB News that his members will hold a "strike vote" on Wednesday between 6am and 5pm.
While most schools will remain open, some evening courses and permits for after-school use (ie. Boy Scouts) would be cancelled. Students and permit holders will have to double check with the particular school board.
