not really at most cases. tell you a small secret, when canadian employers talk about "local experience" or "north america experience", they are not really asking for local work experience, hard skills or knowledge. they're looking for someone can communicate with good english, think and act as local people, know how to team work with boss and colleague. it's totally different work style and culture in canada and china. if you don't have these soft skills, then, they will tell you "you don't have local experience". you can't say it's a discrimination. after you improved language and changed the way thinking, people will recognize you, for sure.
sure you will. you will be free to do anything within canadian law, and what you gain is 100% based on what you pay.

Most canadian people I met believe life is built with three equal foundations. Personal career is just one of them; the others are the family and social/community contribution. You should never work overtime if not required. You don't need show your manager how working-hard you are, finish your assignment just-in-time is perfect. If your company is hosting some social/community activities, or asking some volunteers for team events, take it as possible as you can, let people know how much you'd like to contribute. Always treat your manager and colleagues as your normal friend, of course you need to accept job assignments from the high level people, however you never need to talk them with extra respect and caution.
It won't be easy to accustom canadian work culture, but you'll love it after some time.
