Choose a wish,find a dream
Pick a wishing star
Let your hopes and spirits soar
high and free and far

Reach for the unreachable,
Stretch to touch the sky,
Know no dream you treasure,
Is too far away or high

Believe in the impossible
Then work and try and do
For only those who dare to dream
Can make a dream come true!

Auguries of innocence
william blake
To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your band,
And eternity in an hour.

This is my favorite poem, which words is so precise and it's meaning is so profound. And I especially love the chinese translation.(宗白华译)

annieyu : 2006-04-21#6

jensen : 2006-04-21#7

annieyu : 2006-04-21#8

William Blake(1757-1827): An English poet, artist and painter, who illustrated his own books.Blake believed poetry should demonstrate people's rich imagination, instead of talking about dull reason and crule realities. He advocated protecting the rights of wild animals.

annieyu : 2006-04-21#10
Language point:

a grain of sand, a grain of rice, a grain of gold
We should cherish every grain of rice ,which processed a lot of procedures by farmers ,
workers and merchants and then coming to our bowls.

If you were a grain of gold, you will be shining later or sooner.

Butterfly

The first butterfly of spring orange and purple,

Flits across my path,a flying flower that changes

the colour of my day

Michael Bullock:Born in London in 1918,he writes essays, plays and poetry. He was also the founder of the British poetry magazine"Expression", a base for the development of European modern poetry.Bullock often combines poems with music and visual art. He's also translated poems from other languages, including Chinese Tang Dynasty poet Wang Wei.

annieyu : 2006-04-23#16
It is right spring time now ,so let us find some spring hints in the poem.

Dreams come true

Don't you know that......

Dreams are there to show you the way
(Better take a look inside)
Close your eyes find out what they're trying to say
(You gotta take a look inside)

Only for a minute
Just to make a start
Imagine what you wanna see

Wake him up,the wizard
Sleeping in your heart
Just imagine what you wanna be

annieyu : 2006-04-23#18
Don't you know that...

Dreams come true ,they do

Dreams come true
From all us to all of you, they do

Do't you know that dreams come true

True love is just a second away
(Better take a look inside)
Make that magic rule, let the miracle stay
(You gotta take a look inside)

Only for a minute
It's not a fantasy
Just imagine what you wanna be

annieyu : 2006-04-23#19
Don't you know that

Dreams come true,they do
From allof us to all of you, they do
Don't you know that dreams come true

Dreams come true
Don't you know that

Star Light,Star Bright

Star light,star bright'
The first star I see tonight
I wish I may,I wish I might
Have the wish I wish tonight

I wish I could be happy
Float amongst the stars
Climb a great big mountain
Don't let anything be to hard

I wish I could be confident
So there'd be nothing that I lack
Be as strong as I can be
So I can run and never look back

annieyu : 2006-04-24#22
I wish I could live up to my potential(我希望能挖掘自己全部潜力)
Follow every dream
Never consider a goal too high
Let nothing stay the way it seems(世上原没有不能改变的东西)

I wish I could be patient
Just believe in fate
Stop asking so many questions
And just learn to wait(让自己学会等待)

I wish I could be brave
And never have a fear
Look ahead at my own future
And not just follow what I hear

annieyu : 2006-04-24#23
I wish I were not so naive
Looking blindly at everything
Expecting all to work out
Always expecting to win

I wish I could be me
Accept myself as I am
Stop expecting so much
And be my own number one fan

Star light,star bright
The first star I see tonight
I wish I may, I wish I might
Have the wish I wish tonight

The Blue Boat(Kathleen Jamie)

How late the daylight edges
Towards the northern night
as though journeying
in a blue boat

gilded in mussel shell
with slung from its mast
a lantern like our old idea of the soul

Thank for your support.I did not major in English but since we have applied for permanent resident in Canada ,I think we would better to improve our english as possible as we can.My major was inorganic material .During the long waiting time, how can we pass our spare time,so I decided to read poems to relax and meanwhile to improve my english.I think we can obsorb some spiritual food and slow down our pace ,then think about what do you really want to get,and how can you get it ,or it is really important to you.

It's not enough

It's not enough to have a dream,
unless I'm willing to pursue it

It's not enough to know what's right,(明辩是非还不够,除非我能坚强去行动)
unless I'm strong enough to do it

It's not enough to join the crowd
to be acknowledged and accepted

I must be true to my ideals
even if I'm left out and rejected

It's not enough to learn the truth
unless I also learn to live it

It's not enough to reach for love
unless I care enough to give it

A life with Dreams

Imagine , a life without dreaming
Nothing to work for
Nothing to reach your goal
I mean you should try
To take all your forces
And make your dreams come true
Stand up and try it
Take all your forces
And make your dreams come true
Never give your dreams away
Keep on going every day
You will make it I am sure
Just believein what you can
Sometimes life is going well
Sometimes stones are in your way
Try to push them away
And keep going on your dreams

annieyu : 2006-04-27#29
Don't think everything is working
The first time you try it
Sometimes it is working hard
Do not give up your dreaming
People who do not dream do not push
They are lazy till they are old
You know what I mean
I hope you won not be
Lazy till you are old
Stand up and fight for
Fight for your life
Be proud of yourlife
Do not wait for presents
Chrismas is over
Fight for your life
Be proud of yourself

annieyu : 2006-04-29#30
Sometimes I wish(Margaret Marr)

Sometimes I wish I could brush aside the cobwebs(蜘蛛网) of time
Go back and give you a warm hug on the days your heart hurt so badly

Sometimes I wish I could step through a rift(裂缝)in lost intervals
Stroll through yesterday to see you smile

And let you know it was
A special part of my life

But most of all I wish I could reach back across the years
And give you all my heart has to give

So you would have never known
A day without my love

Slow Dance

Have you ever watched kids
On a merry-go-round?
Or listened to the rain
Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Do you run through each day
On the fly?
When you ask How are you?
Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done
Do you lie in your bed
With the next hundred chores
Running through your head?

You'd better slow down
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

Ever told your child,
We'll do it tomorrow?
And in your haste,
Not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die
Cause you never had time
To call and say,"hi"

You'd better slow down.
Don't dance so fast.
Time is short.
The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.
When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift....
Thrown away.

Life is not a race.
Do take it slower
Hear the music
Before the song is over.

There's a story about a little girl that goes with the above poem and I'd like to share it as well.
A couple of years ago I got an email (see below) forwarded from a friend with this poem and request to forward the email, which was the wish of a girl with cancer. I don't know it's true or not, but it's a sad story, and still remember it after two or three years.

***********************
PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO HELP THIS LITTLE GIRL.
ALL FORWARDED E-MAILS ARE TRACKED TO OBTAIN THE TOTAL COUNT.

Dear All:

PLEASE pass this mail on to everybody you know.
It is the request of a special little girl who
will soon leave this world as she has cancer.

Please send this to everyone you know or don't know.
This little girl has 6 months left to live, and as her dying wish,
She wanted to send a letter telling everyone to live
their life to the fullest, since she never will.

She'll never make it to prom, graduate from high
school, or get married and have a family of her own.

By you sending this to as many people as possible,
you can give her and her family a little hope,
because with every name that this is sent to,
The American Cancer Society
will donate 3 cents per name to her treatment and recovery plan.

One guy sent this to 500 people! So I know that we can send it to at least 5 or 6.
Just think it could be you one day. It's not even your money, just your time!

PLEASE PASS ON AS A LAST REQUEST

Dr. Dennis Shields, Professor
Department of Developmental and Molecular Biology
1300 Morris Park Avenue
Bronx, New York 10461

A man who speaks to flowers(Brendan Kennelly)

He says to the shy chrysanthemum
Grow for me
You know you can grow
Into your own beauty

To the plant on the windowsill
The sun is for you
All you have to do,young one
Is let yourself come through

He lives to encourage
With every word he wishes you well
To what is at the start of growing
And I know
That hell
Is where nothing is
Allowed to grow

annieyu : 2006-05-11#36
A man who speaks to flowers

So
Like April rain
Invigorating April green
He has heaven deep fun
His tender words collaborating with the sun

annieyu : 2006-05-11#37

Mother Machree(亲爱的妈妈)

Mother's day is coming,so I tap this poem for all mothers and mother's mothers.Hope all of you have a good day.

There's a spot in my heart
Which no colleen may own
There's a depth in my soul
never sounded or known
There's a place in my memory
my life that you fill
No other can take it
no one ever will
Every sorrow or care
in the dear days gone by
Was made bright by the light
of the smile in your eye
Like a candle that 's set
in a window at night
Your fond love has cheered me
and guided me right
sure I love the dear silver
that shines in your hair
And the brow that's all furrowed
and wrinkled with care

annieyu : 2006-05-11#39
mother machree

I kiss the dear fingers
so toil warm for me
Oh! God bless you and
keep you,mother machree!

When you are old

When you are old
by W. B. Yeats

When you are old and grey and full of sleep,
And nodding by the fire, take down this book,
And slowly read, and dream of the soft look
Your eyes had once, and of their shadows deep;

How many loved your moments of glad grace,
And loved your beauty with love false or true,
But one man loved the pilgrim soul in you,
And loved the sorrows of your changing face;

And bending down beside the glowing bars,
Murmur, a little sadly, how Love fled
And paced upon the mountains overhead
And hid his face amid a crowd of stars.

  回想它们昔日浓重的阴影;

  爱你衰老了的脸上痛苦的皱纹;

Bridges

If I were a builder,
I'd make big bridges,
Bridges to far-away lands;
To Asia,Africa,South America,
Bridges to Europe,Iceland,Iraq.

I'd walk round the world,
To visit the people,
And when we shook hands,
We'd make a little bridges.

(Edith Segal)

通向遥远地方的大桥;

She is lovely,
With the character of fire
And the form of water

She is a merry spirit
Where there is a happy event
There she 'll find herself

She 's so good at teasing
That she can make you speak the truth
And bare your heart

She 'll make you
Forget your troubles
And enjoy yourself

Drink then, to victory
Drink then, to friendship
Drink then, to love

But you must take care
When you feel jolly
She 'll steal your reason away

Don't take her for water
That will put out your worries
She is the oil poured on the fire

That'll make the wise even wise
And the foolish even more foolish

The strangest word

The strangest word
----Li Wendong
The strangest word is love---------
So easy to pronounce,
But so hard to prove.
To utter it needs only a puff of breath;
To testify it may demand a man's death.

Dreams
Langston Hughes
Hold fast to dreams
For if dreams die
Life is a broken-winged bird
That cannot fly

Hold fast to dreams
For when dreams go
Life is a barren field
Frozen with snow

Empty-handed and open-handed
Chen Siying
You said,
"I think I have every reason to be a taker---
I am born empty-handed and open-handed

I said quite the opposite,
"We are born empry-handed and open-handed,
Because Nature wants each of us to be a giver."

I like this one too.So life is fair,it gives everyone the same image.Life is unfair, through the same image you get different conclusion.
Every coin has two sides .Which side do you see decided by yourself. No one can change the side so why don't we change our angle to see the same ploblem?

Trees----Joyce Kilmer(American)

I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree

A tree whose hungry mouth is prest(pressed变体为押韵breast)
Agaist the earth's sweet flowing breast

A tree that looks at God all day
And lifts her leafy arms to pray

A tree that may in Summer wear
A nest of robins in her hair

Upon whose bosom snow has lain
Who intimately lives with rain

Poems are made by fools like me
But only God can make a tree

and then moves on
