MONTREAL ― Charles Roberts scored a touchdown and his strong running at the end allowed the Winnipeg Blue Bombers to run out the clock en route to a 17-14 win over Montreal on Sunday, the Alouettes' sixth straight loss.
Montreal had a chance to tie the game with a short field goal while facing a third-and-short at the Winnipeg 17-yard line with less than three minutes remaining. But backup quarterback Marcus Brady fumbled on a sneak and Winnipeg's Kyries Hebert recovered the ball, allowing the Bombers to hang on for the win.

But backup quarterback Marcus Brady fumbled on a sneak and Winnipeg's Kyries Hebert recovered the ball, allowing the Bombers to hang on for the win.
Running back Robert Edwards scored a touchdown for the first time in six games for Montreal (7-6). But quarterback Anthony Calvillo didn't throw a TD pass, giving him only five majors in his last eight contest.
Winnipeg (7-7) snapped a two-game road losing streak and won for only the second time in seven games. But the Bombers moved into a three-way tie for first in the East Division with Montreal (7-6) and Toronto (7-6).

Winnipeg led 14-4 at halftime and that advantage looked safe as neither team scored in the third. But a missed 36-yard field goal try by Troy Westwood was fielded deep in the Montreal end zone by Avon Colbourne, who returned it 95 yards to the Winnipeg 34 yard-line with one second left in the quarter.
That seemed to spark the Alouettes as 46 seconds into the fourth Edwards ran hard up the middle for a 15-yard touchdown, his 12th of the season, to cut Winnipeg's lead to 14-11.
After a Blue Bombers went two and out, Montreal took over on its 30-yard line and was marching back up the field when sure-handed receiver Ben Cahoon dropped what would have been a first down catch. So the Alouettes had to settle for Damon Duval's 44-yard field goal at 6:07 to make it 14-14.
Winnipeg countered with a 40-yard Westwood field goal at 9:34 of the fourth on its next offensive possession.
The Alouettes were forced to punt when they had the ball next, but Roberts fumbled on first down and it was recovered by Montreal's Ricky Bell at the Winnipeg 26-yard line. Two runs by Edwards left the home team third-and-inches at the Bombers' 17-yard line.
But instead of going for the field goal to tie the game, Montreal head coach Don Matthews elected to go for the first down. Brady fumbled as he hit the pile and it bounced out to Hebert at his own 10-yard line.
Roberts immediately made up for his earlier gaffe, running the ball the next four plays for a total of 85 yards to get Winnipeg into scoring range.
The much-maligned Montreal offence began the game well, driving to a 28-yard Duval field goal on its opening series. But Calvillo and the Als sputtered for the rest of the first half, managing only four first downs and one point on the final play of the first half on Duval's errant 37-yard field goal attempt to cut Winnipeg's lead to 14-4.
Roberts had the lone touchdown of the opening half on a one-yard run at 13:14 of the first.
NOTES ― Cahoon played his 150th career game in an Alouettes uniform . . . Blue Bombers offensive tackle Garrick Jones was taken off the field on a cart midway through the second with an apparent leg injury.
