I’m writing to seek help. I’m a new immigrant from China. My family moved to Burnaby a couple of months ago. I found a recruiting advertisement on the local newspaper at the beginning of August. It was a car body shop which name is Badguy’s Body Shop. I visited the shop and met the owner whose name is Badguy. I was offered the job and was promised an hourly wage rate as $7 in cash. I began to work on August 7th and continued to work until 18th. I worked hard and seriously for 64 hours totally and extra 4 hours overtime. But I found Badguy, the boss is not reliable because he always didn’t do what he said he would do so that I decided to quit. I informed Badguy my intension to quit and he agreed. I went to ask for my salary that the shop owns me on 22d and 23d and was told to go again on 25th. On 25th I received a call from the shop and was told to go to take the salary on next Monday. On 28th I met Badguy, the boss in the shop finally, but was told that I made a part damaged while I was working on the door of a car. Badguy said that he would keep $200 from the salary which he owns me for compensation to the damaged part. In fact, it was not me to make that part damaged. I never did what Badguy said that I did to cause the damage, and Badguy never mentioned the damage before I asked for the payment. Actually it is a trick to avoid payment to a hard worker. I asked two of my friends to visit Badguy. Badguy told the fictional story again and again. He even asked another man who actually didn’t present while I was working on that car to proof that the story was true. I was insulted savagely in the shop when I said that they were lying. The exact words they used were:” Fuck you.” I think Canada is my new land and I was happy to be a new resident in Burnaby. But I never expected to be treated so unfairly and badly here. My daughter is young and my wife hasn’t found a job yet. I’m the supplier of my family. But now I felt so helpless. My only hope now is that the law of Canada is as fair as I imagine.
